Nissan Figaro How to Replace Fuel Filter

Nissan Figaro How to Replace Fuel Filter
New fuel filter

Let’s replace consumables as much as possible for preventive maintenance. This is a new fuel filter.

Fuel pressure release

First, release the fuel pressure. Let’s remove the fuel cap. You should hear a “psss” sound when you remove it. If you don’t hear it, may have leaked pressure between the fill port and the tank.

The fuel pump relay

Next, release the fuel pressure from the fuel pump to the injector. The most common method is as follows.
1. Pull out the fuel pump fuse.
2. Remove the fuel pump relay.
Then the pump will not turn, so if you start the engine in that state the fuel will not go to the injector and it will stall in a few seconds and the fuel pressure will release. But Figaro doesn’t work this way. About step 1,there is a fuse, but it also serves as a power supply for the engine ECU, so it is no good. As you can see, step 2 is troublesome because you have to remove the air cleaner, and there is a possibility that the outside coupler will crack due to aging.

Fuel pump coupler

So there is the easiest way. Unplug the fuel pump coupler. The place is the coupler shown in the image that appears after removing the seat surface of the rear seat. When this is pulled out and the engine is started, the engine will stall in a few seconds, so the fuel pressure removal is complete. Don’t forget to connect after work.

Fuel filter removal

Then finally remove the fuel filter. The place is behind the air flow meter. It is possible to work with this as it is, but I think that it is easier to work with removing the air duct if you are not confident. Also, it is better to have a stubby screwdriver to loosen the clamp. The procedure is the following 3 steps.

  1. Loosen the screw in the middle to separate the main unit from the stay.
  2. Unscrew the lower clamp and twist the body to remove the hose. (At this time, some fuel will come out, so please prepare the saucer.)
  3. Loosen the upper clamp and twist the body to remove the hose.

Installation is the reverse procedure. Finally, close the filler cap, connect the coupler of the fuel pump, start the engine. At this time, turn the key and wait 5 seconds. Then, the fuel pump turns and the fuel pressure rises. That’s it.
