R35 GT-R Checkpoints For Purchasing Used Cars | Malfunction Summary

R35 GT-R Checkpoints For Purchasing Used Cars | Malfunction Summary

It has been 13 years since the Nissan R35 GT-R was released. Since the initial model (2007–2009) has a large number of sales, the price of used cars has decreased. There will be more and more people who purchase second-hand cars and become new owners, or purchase as a base vehicle for tuning. So, for those who will be the owners of the future, as one of the 2008 model owners, I have summarized the problems that have occurred in my GT-R so far.

The LED lamp behind the meter went out

The LED lamp behind the meter went out

About 28,000 miles (about 3 years) later, the LED on the fuel gauge gradually began to blink, and at the end it completely disappeared. I had no problems in driving, but I replaced it because other lamps may go out in the future. I was lucky enough to be able to fix it with the manufacturer’s warranty.

By the way, it is said that there is no report of trouble after it became the blue color meter of the current model.

Looseness of the flywheel housing

Looseness of the flywheel housing

Familiar defects in 2007–2009 models, loose flywheel housing. When the mileage was about 57,000 km, it started rattling at high speeds, so the result of the investigation was around flywheel.

  1. There is rattling in the assembly of the housing.
  2. The flywheel will be displaced and extra vibration will be applied.
  3. The flywheel damper absorbs the extra vibration.
  4. It will not be able to withstand unexpected loads and the damper will be damaged.
  5. Make a strange noise.

There seems to be rattling as a result of the above process. By the way, the current model has already taken measures.

Woofer damage

Woofer damage

I like listening to music with heavy bass at high volume, so the woofer responsible for the bass may be too intense and broken. As this is unique to each person, it may not be a general problem.

Manufacturing failure of steering lock

Manufacturing failure of steering lock

I think there were a lot of people who didn’t happen this, but unfortunately it happened on my GT-R. I have a memory that I kept waiting for a tow truck in the coldest part of the winter when the engine didn’t start. Since it is a service campaign target part, exchange was of course free. By the way, there is no problem because countermeasure products are currently used.

Rattling of the pillow bush at the base of the left rear suspension lower arm

Rattling of the pillow bush at the base of the left rear suspension lower arm

This part is the place where the load is most likely to be applied in the rear suspension arm, and it seems that it can be seen in a good number for people who run hard. The reason for rattling only at this part is that the exhaust pipe is right next to it, so it easily deteriorates due to heat. Since it is impossible to re-strike, it was replaced for each arm.

Engine oil reduction

Engine oil reduction

This is a problem with the engine of a person who has a long mileage and runs a lot on the circuit. Until now, I have never had this kind of thing because I kept the engine oil change cycle (once every 6 months), but my GT-R has been running a total of 42,000 miles and a few circuits a year, eventually this symptom began to appear.

The workaround is to add more oil.

Poor sensing of barometric pressure sensor of a tire

Poor sensing of barometric pressure sensor of a tire.

When I measured it with an air gauge, it contained air properly, and there is no problem with the sensor inside the tire, but this is due to a defect in the sensor on the vehicle body side. The solution is to replace the sensor at the moment, but apparently there is no countermeasure product at this time.

Summary

Summary R35 GT-R

The above is a summary of the problems that occurred in my GT-R, which has a total mileage of 42,000 miles and runs 4 to 5 times a year. There were various minor problems, but at the present stage, there are no major problems (engine, mission, etc.).

  • Engine oil is changed at the same time as the filter once every six months
  • Change mission oil and differential oil once a year
  • Replace various filters once a year
  • Replace tires and brakes as needed
  • Full normal except for ECU and TCU

Due to the above maintenance, the main part was always trouble free.
