Supra JZA80 How To Change Transmission Oil
Preparing for work
Here’s a summary of what you need to change Supra’s mission oil.
- Mission oil 2L
- 17mm socket or combination wrench (It requires a lot of torque, so it should be as long as possible)
- Spinner handle, ratchet wrench, etc
- Stainless steel pipe with an inner diameter of around 10 mm (Use with a combination wrench)
- Liquid gasket
- Oil suction equipment such as suction gun
- Creeper (Convenient if you have)
- Waste oil processing box
- Paper waste
- Disposable vinyl gloves
- Work gloves
- Brake cleaner
- Hydraulic jack and rigid rack
- Lowdown slope
How to change the transmission oil
The yellow circle on the right side of the photo is the oil inlet, and the yellow circle on the bottom is the oil drain. Since the standard amount of mission oil for Supra is 1.8L, you can work by preparing 2L of mission oil. At least the front must be jacked up when changing. After jacking up, be sure to use a rigid rack as a safety measure. (The 5MT W58 mission uses 2.6L of oil, and the 6MT V160 or V161 mission uses 1.8L of oil.)
Now, I will explain the flow of mission oil change. First, run your Supra for a few minutes to make it easier to drain the oil. Then, jack up the front. At this time, be sure to use a rigid rack. Install a waste oil processing box under the oil drain. Remove the plug on the inlet side to make it easier to drain the oil.
When the drain plug is removed, the oil will be drained vigorously. It takes a lot of force to remove the drain plug, so prepare a 17mm socket and combination wrench that are as long as possible.
The mission oil will be discharged vigorously, so be sure to put it in the waste oil processing box. Use a brake cleaner to clean the drain plug and the area around the drain and inlet. I was wondering whether to apply a liquid gasket to the threads of the drain plug, but I installed it as it was without using it. By the way, the packing attached to the drain plug was reused as it is. Then tighten the drain plug.
Warm the mission oil to about 50-60 ° C before injecting. This will make the injection process easier. Be careful not to overheat it as it may cause burns.
Insert the suction gun hose into the inlet as shown in the photo. After inserting, set the waste oil processing box under the inlet.
Set the suction gun in the oil can and pump it about 20 times, and the oil will overflow from the inlet. After confirming that it has overflowed, install the inlet plug. After checking for oil leaks, if there are no problems, jack down and it’s done. Before jacking down, make sure that you haven’t misplaced tools under the car.
